Other Ways to Help (posted: June 06, 2007)
If you are unable to make a long term commitment, are not age 18 or older, or are not interested in the current volunteer opportunities, there are other ways to help. We can always use washable blankets, washable dog and cat toys (i.e. tennis balls, Kong toys, ping pong balls), premium timothy hay for rabbits to eat, and general supplies such as bleach, paper towels, toilet paper, tissues and copy paper. YOU CAN HELP TREMENDOUSLY BY EDUCATING your friends, neighbors and family about the importance of controlling the pet population by spaying and neutering pets and by choosing to adopt from a shelter when you are ready for a new companion for life!

Current Opportunities (posted: June 06, 2007)
KENNEL ASSISTANTS are needed to help clean weekend mornings to keep the shelter safe and sanitary for the animals. For more information about these opportunities, contact the Manager of Volunteer Services, at 703-838-4774 extension 225.

Cat Groomers (posted: June 06, 2007)
Cat Groomers (posted: August 08, 2006) We're looking for professional pet groomers, who would like to volunteer their services to groom cats on an as-needed-basis. From time to time, a cat arrives at our shelter whose fur is matted and in need of a good groom. Well groomed fur is important for the mental and physical well being of cats. If you are intertesed in grooming, please contact the Manager of Volunteer Services at (703) 838-4774 ext. 225.

General Information (posted: June 06, 2007)
Volunteers must be mature, reliable individuals who are willing to make a long term commitment to the League. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Volunteers need to be able to schedule regular hours, work well on their own, be self motivated and yet able to follow staff directions. Several steps are required to become a volunteer. First, set up an orientation appointment with the Manager of Volunteer Services. Orientations take 1-2 hours. After the orientation, you will be contacted about which volunteer opportunity is the best match for you. Then, a date and time will be agreed upon for you to try out the volunteer experience. After a trial period, if both you and the Manager of Volunteer Services feel the program is for you, a regular schedule will be set. Thank you for your interest and support.
