Jelly Jelly is the “spokes-cat” for our Foster Program and was just 4 weeks old when this photo was taken. We are looking for dedicated, energetic, and patient foster parents to care for underage and underweight puppies and kittens, as well as animals recovering from illness or surgery and those who need help with behavioral issues. We need foster parents to provide them with a warm, friendly place to live until they can be considered for adoption. Foster parents will care for animals in their own homes on a temporary basis. Parents will feed, socialize, medicate, groom, and train foster animals according to the guidelines set forth by the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria. The time commitment may range from a few days to several weeks, from a few hours a day to around-the-clock care, depending upon the age and situation of each fosterling. The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria will provide you with the training and supplies that you and your young charges require. You provide the tender loving care and attention these fosterlings crave. Fostering a young animal can be hard work. It can be difficult, frustrating, and sometimes heartbreaking. It also is one of the most rewarding experiences an animal lover can have. Fostering saves lives! Bernadette Bernadette is a 3-year-old Domestic Short Hair. She's a sweet girl who likes having fun! Bernadette was brought to the shelter because her previous guardians were moving and decided to leave her behind. She’s hoping to find her forever home this time around. Bernadette is an affectionate girl who enjoys being pampered with plenty of pets and full-body massages. She also likes being held and cuddled. Bernadette is very playful and enjoys playing with balls, wand toys, and other cat toys. She would love to find a new home with lots of comfortable spots for afternoon naps. Annabelle Annabelle is a 1-year-old brown and white tabby Domestic Short Hair. She’s a sweet, affectionate girl and is anxiously awaiting her forever home. Could it be with you? Annabelle was brought to the shelter because she and a dog in her previous home simply didn't gel. She loves being petted, held, and cuddled. Annabelle can sometimes become a bit overstimulated when she’s being petted, so she would do best in a home without small children. Annabelle is an active girl and loves playing with toy mice, wand toys, and other cat toys. She would love to be adopted into a home that already has a playful resident cat, or to be adopted with another young cat here at the shelter. Annabelle would prefer a dog-free home. She is on a grain-free, wet food diet. When you come to the shelter, please ask our Adoptions Staff about Annabelle and her diet. Cinnamon is a little shy around strangers, but she warms up nicely if you go slowly with her and provide a little reassurance. She loves being lavished with pets and head scratches. Cinnamon will need to be regularly brushed to keep her coat looking its best. She would love to find a quiet, low-key home with plenty of comfy spots for afternoon naps. He warms up nicely if you go slowly with him and provide some reassuring words and gentle head rubs. Colonel also loves being treated to plenty of pets. He is still learning his kitty manners, so he would probably do best in a home without small children. Colonel would like to find a new home with plenty of quiet, comfy spots for afternoon naps and lots of sunny windows so he can observe all of the goings-on in the neighborhood. Sandy Sandy is an affectionate 11-year-old buff tabby Domestic Short Hair. She's been through some turbulent times lately. Sandy was brought to the shelter after someone in her previous home developed cat allergies. It’s always sad for a cat to lose their home and family, but this can be especially difficult for an older cat. Though 11 years old really is still quite young when you consider that a cat can live to be more than 20 years in age! We’ve been quite impressed that Sandy is handling this whole situation with such a quiet grace. She really deserves to find a loving home that she can enjoy for the rest of her years! Sandy loves meeting new people, especially ones who treat her to plenty of pets. She also enjoys head rubs and chin scratches. She is quite playful and loves engaging in regular play sessions with wand toys and other cat toys. Betelgeuse also enjoys playing with other cats. Kittens! It's summertime and we have LOTS of kittens here at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria! We don't post all their pictures, since kittens get adopted faster than adult cats and the faces are always changing - but if you're looking for a kitten, come on in and check out our beautiful babies! Kittens, like all of our cats, go home up-to-date on shots as is appropriate for their age and health, spayed/neutered (or with a certificate for the same), FeLV/FIV tested negative, dewormed and microchiped. Kenya Kenya is a 7-year-old white-with-brown patched tabby Domestic Medium Hair. Our beautiful Kenya and her kittens spent a couple of weeks in a staff member’s office after she came back from foster care. She was a great mother to her 4 little kittens – all of whom have been adopted! Kenya is a gentle girl with a big heart. While she’s not necessarily a “lap cat” – she always wants to be right by your side. Kenya loves attention and rolls over for belly rubs! She’s a very social cat and happily greeted visitors to our staff member’s office. One of Kenya’s favorite pastimes was hanging out on the office desk and watching the birds outside. Since Kenya has a medium-length coat, she’ll need to be brushed a few times a week – something which she adores. Kenya may be visiting an office when you stop by the shelter, so please ask the staff to see her. You'll be glad you did! Kenya is a gentle girl with a big heart.
