04/17/2008 - 06/01/2008	Somebody to Love -- Your Photos Wanted "Somebody to Love” is the theme of the 2008 Annual Dinner and Silent Auction and we want YOU to help us celebrate the bond between people and their animal companions. We are looking for photos of people with their pets for possible inclusion in our event invitation, program and other printed material. Photos should be close-up shots and should reflect the loving relationship between you and your pet. Photos should have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi and saved as either a jpeg at the highest optimization or as a tiff file with LZW compression. The deadline for photo submission is June 1, 2008. Please email your photo, your name, the names of everyone in the photo and a sentence or two about your relationship to your pet to dhohenthaner@alexandriaanimals.org Attn: Annual Dinner Photo. Submission of a photo grants the AWLA the right to publish, use, adapt, edit and/or modify such photos in any way, in any and all media, without limitation and without consideration to the entrant, whether or not such submission is selected for use with this particular event.
04/17/2008 - 05/31/2008	Animal Matters T.V. Show Coming Soon Stay tuned for the up and coming Animal Matters T.V. show created and produced by the AWLA. Many animal welfare issues will be discussed in an educational and fun format. The show will air on Monday nights at 6:30 beginning in early May. Stay tuned to Comcast channel 69 for this exciting production!.
05/01/2008 - 10/26/2008	Pets of Alexandria Calendar Contest Now is the time to share those wonderful photos of your special friend with other pet lovers! Enter the 2009 Pet Calendar Contest! All Pets are Eligible! All Entries will Appear in the Calendar! The Photo with the Most Votes Wins! Here's what you could win: Picture Your Pet on the Cover! The entry that receives the most votes will receive a custom pet portrait from PawPrints Photography which will be featured on the calendar cover and presented at the AWLA's Annual Dinner on October 25, 2008. Pets who have won the cover in the past are not eligible to win the cover again, but may enter for inclusion in the calendar and to win a "Pet of the Month" or "Year at a Glance" spot. Professional Photo Shoot and Photo Placement! Each of the 13 runners-up will win a free professional photo shoot from EXPRESSIONS3 studio. The photographer's choice of photo from each session will be featured as a "Pet of the Month" or "Year at a Glance" photo along with the original photo submission. Winners must be available for an in-studio photo shoot between August 27 and September 14, 2008. How to enter: Submit a good quality 4x6 photo of the PET ONLY - no people. Photos cannot be returned. Digital photos must be printed on photo paper. On the back of the photo, attach a sticky note with pet's name, owner's name, and phone number. Do not write directly on the photo. The entry fee is $25.00 per pet entry (one entry per pet) and entries must be received by noon on August 22, 2008. One free calendar is included with every entry. Make checks payable to AWLA. Mail the completed entry form, photo and entry fee to: AWLA, Attn: Calendar Contest, 4101 Eisenhower Ave., Alexandria, VA 22304. Submission of an entry form grants the AWLA the right to publish, use, adapt, edit and/or modify such photos in any way, in any and all media, without limitation and without consideration to the entrant. How to vote for your favorite pet photo: Each vote is $1.00; there is no limit on the number of votes cast. You may vote for your own photo. Encourage family, friends and neighbors to cast their votes for your pet's photo! Voting starts as soon as the photo is submitted. Voting can be done by mail, at the Shelter, or by calling 703-838-4774. Votes made over the phone with a credit card are restricted to a $25.00 minimum. Additional voting will be done at events throughout the area. All votes must be received by noon on August 22, 2008. To make sure the vote is credited to the correct photo, votes must identify the pet and owner's name. Winners will be notified on or about August 25, 2008. The calendar will be revealed at the League's Annual Dinner on October 25, 2008. 06/11/2008	Pawsitive Impact Circle Reception All current members of the Pawsitive Impact Circle are invited to a private reception on Wednesday June 11 between 6:30 PM and 8:30 PM. The reception will be held at Commerce Bank. Guests will dine on light hors d’oeuvres and have the opportunity to meet with members of the Staff and Board of Directors. Invitations will be mailed in May. Pawsitive Impact Circle membership is based on monetary gifts made during any 12 month time period. Totals can be accumulated. Pledges toward the membership levels will be accepted. In-kind gift values are not eligible. Special event registration fees are not eligible. Giving levels and their benefits are: Bronze Collar ($500 - $999) special recognition ribbon on Annual Dinner badge, invitations to all league events, Spotlight on Animals newsletter twice a year, and monthly email newsletter if you provide us with your email address; Silver Collar ($1,000 - $2,499) all of the above benefits and also sponsorship of a cat condo or dog kennel for a year with your name in the animal residence area; Golden Collar ($2,500 - $4,999) all of the above benefits and also a complimentary invitation to a League event at our discretion, a letter from the President twice a year with updates and announcements about League activities and programs, and recognition of your gift in the lobby by name (with written permission); Platinum Collar ($5,000 + Above) all of the above benefits and also a private dinner with the President of the Board and Executive Director of AWLA, and sponsorship of both a cat condo and dog kennel for a year with name in animal residence area.
